Dad who lost son to suicide shares his experience with students

Dennis Graham visited East Riding College ahead of World Mental Health Day to speak to the students about his own experience and to raise awareness of what support is available.  Dennis lost his son Matt to suicide in 2010 when Matt was only 17.    

Former College student wins Copper Saucepan Competition

A recent graduate of the College Helen Mayoh from Beverley won the Copper Saucepan cooking competition at this year’s Beverley Food Festival. Helen works at AAK UK Ltd in food development and recently completed a level 2 diploma in professional cookery.

East Riding College student Jasmine McCann has been awarded a scholarship from the Lords Feoffees of Bridlington. Jasmine, aged 19 from Bridlington won a place at the Manchester Fashion Institute, part of Manchester Metropolitan University to study Fashion Promotion after completing her BTEC Diploma in Fashion at East Riding College in July.

Joinery bursary awarded to inspirational student

Student James Balkwill, aged 19 from Gransmoor near Driffield has been chosen to receive a bursary for joinery from the Gordon Leason Carpentry Apprenticeship Scholarship Fund, awarded by the Rotary Club of Driffield.  

College announces deal with RMT

East Riding College and the National Union of Rail, Maritime and Transport Workers (RMT) signed a landmark deal at the RMT’s annual Education Festival recently.  Representatives from the College were guests at the Festival which was held at the RMT’s Bob Crow National Education Centre in Doncaster.

College collaborates on new civil engineering course

East Riding College and East Riding of Yorkshire Council have collaborated with local employers to develop a new civil engineering course.  The organisations identified a gap in local provision of higher-level HNC qualifications in construction and civil engineering. 

Another rising star signs to Music Academy label

Student Tia Ellis has signed a recording contract with East Riding College’s own record label Academy Records.  Tia, aged 17, is a singer and pianist from Bridlington. She started playing the piano at the age of six and has only recently started performing live as a soloist, but is now taking on gigs and performances throughout the region.   

Refugees Cycle Challenge

A group of refugees, some of whom study at East Riding College took part in a Refugee Cycle Challenge recently.  Many of the refugees who took part are from Syria and came to the East Riding to start a new life.  They have been taking part in a cycling scheme to help them get around the area safely and put their knowledge to good use by taking part in a 50-mile bike ride across the East Riding.  

East Riding College re-signs Armed Forces Covenant
