Detectives looking to trace driver of car involved in city collision

Leicestershire Police News Feed - Fri, 03/22/2019 - 13:46

Officers investigating a collision that happened in St Matthews Way on Monday (18 March) are appealing for help to identify the driver of the car involved.

A silver Volkswagen Golf GTI was in collision with a pedestrian using the crossing near the junction with Wharf Street North about 1.25pm. The car was travelling towards the roundabout with Humberstone Road.

The car, which has since been recovered by police from the Belgrave area of the city, is a hire vehicle bearing the registration PL18 TGE.

Detective Constable Seamus Burns, the investigating officer from Leicestershire Police’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “Today I’m asking for any motorists who were travelling along St Matthews Way, or who were in that area at the time of the collision to come forward.

“If you have a dashcam in your vehicle, please check for any footage that it may have recorded. Even if you don’t have a dashcam, I would like to speak to you if you saw the car in question and have any details about the person who was driving.

“I’d also like to speak to anyone who saw the silver Golf either before or after the collision happened. Any information you have could help with my investigation.”

The pedestrian, a woman in her 50s, was taken to the Queen’s Medical Centre in Nottingham. She remains in hospital in a stable condition. Anyone with information is asked to call 101, quoting crime number 19*138083.
